By booking or attending a tour with Walkabout Durham, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions.

Full Terms & Conditions
1. Who We Are
Walkabout Durham – City Walking Tours Ltd operates guided walking tours in Durham, UK. We provide public, private and themed tours for individuals, families, groups and organisations.
2. Booking & Payment
Bookings can be made online via our website or approved booking platforms.
Payment is taken at the time of booking unless otherwise agreed.
You are responsible for ensuring that all booking details provided (dates, contact information, number of participants etc.) are correct.
3. Cancellations & Refunds (Customer)- For Durham Tours Only
(For the cancellation policy for Private Full Day North East Tours see section 15 below)
We understand plans can change.

Cancellations made 24 hours or more before the tour: Full refund

Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the tour: No refund

Failure to attend (no show): No refund
Refunds are issued to the original payment method.
4. Cancellations & Changes by Us
We always aim to operate tours as advertised.

Tours will not be cancelled due to low numbers. We will run tours regardless of how many people have booked.

In rare circumstances (such as severe weather, safety concerns, illness or events beyond our control), we may modify or cancel a tour.

If we cancel a tour, you will be offered either:

A full refund, or
-
The option to move to another date (subject to availability)

5. Late Arrival & No Shows
Please arrive at the meeting point in good time.

If there are other people on the tour, we will not be able to delay the start time; however, you are welcome to join the tour part-way through.
Failure to attend without notification will be treated as a no-show and is non-refundable.
6. Pricing
Prices are clearly displayed at the time of booking and include all applicable charges unless otherwise stated.
7. Safety & Participation
Walking tours involve public streets and outdoor environments. By attending, you agree to:

Take care for your own safety

Follow instructions given by the guide

Use appropriate judgement based on your health and mobility
We cannot accept liability for injuries caused by lack of care, personal negligence, or not following instructions.
8. Children & Under 18s

Children are welcome on tours (except for the Pub & History Tour- see below) but must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Parents/guardians remain responsible for children.
Pub & History Tour

Participants on the Pub & History Tour must be 18 or over

You may be required to show valid ID at pubs

Some booking platforms may request a date of birth for verification purposes
We reserve the right to refuse participation if age cannot be verified.
9. Accessibility
Durham is a historic city with uneven surfaces, cobbled streets and steep areas. Many walking surfaces may be uneven, slippery or cobbled.

The current standard tour route is not wheelchair accessible

However, customers may book a private tour (generally at no extra cost), where we will provide a route that is as wheelchair accessible as reasonably possible
If you have mobility concerns, please contact us before booking.
10. Behaviour & Conduct
We want everyone to enjoy the tour. Guests are expected to behave respectfully towards the guide, other participants, the general public and local businesses.
Alcohol

Alcohol is not permitted on the tour

It is illegal to drink alcohol on the streets of Durham
-
Anyone drinking during the tour may be asked to leave without refund
Smoking & Vaping
-
Please do not smoke or vape while with the group
-
On private tours, smoking and vaping may be permitted outdoors, at the guide’s discretion
We reserve the right to remove anyone whose behaviour is disruptive, unsafe or inappropriate.
11. Weather
Tours run in most weather conditions. Please dress appropriately.
In cases of severe or dangerous weather, we may cancel or modify the tour (see Section 4).
12. Liability
We accept no responsibility for:

Loss, theft or damage to personal belongings
-
Personal injury resulting from failure to follow safety guidance
-
Incidents beyond our reasonable control
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights.
13. Photography
Our guides or other participants may sometimes take photographs during tours. If you do not wish to appear in photographs, please inform your guide at the start of the tour.
14. Data Protection
We only collect and use personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available on our website.
15. Private Full-Day Tours (North East Tours)
The following terms apply specifically to private full-day tours and bespoke North East tours. These terms override standard booking and cancellation terms where applicable.
Booking & Payment
Private full-day tours are arranged via direct enquiry and confirmed by invoice.
A non-refundable deposit of 25% is required to secure the booking.
The remaining balance must be paid no later than 7 days prior to the tour date.
For bookings made within 7 days of the tour date, full payment is required at the time of booking.
Tour dates are not reserved until the deposit has been received.
Failure to pay the balance by the due date may result in cancellation of the booking, and the deposit will be retained.
Acceptance of Terms
By confirming your booking in writing and/or paying an invoice, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions.
Cancellations (Customer)
All cancellations must be made in writing via email.
The following cancellation charges apply:

More than 7 days before the tour date: Loss of deposit only

2-7 days before the tour date: 50% of total tour price
-
Less than 2 days before the tour date: 100% of total tour price
These charges reflect the reservation of a dedicated guide and full-day availability.
No refunds will be given for:

No-shows
-
Late arrivals
-
Unused portions of the tour
Amendments
Requests to amend bookings (including date changes) must be made in writing and are subject to availability.
Changes may not be possible within 7 days of the tour date.
Cooling-Off Period
Private full-day tours are leisure services provided on a specific date and are therefore exempt from the 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.
Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend that customers take out appropriate travel insurance to cover cancellations, travel disruption, or personal circumstances.
16. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
